GeoTLD.group domains meet in Leewarden

A Coruña, September 22 | PuntoGal took part last week in a meeting held in Leewarden, Friesland, which brought together the main domains that represent cities, regions, languages, and cultures across Europe, all grouped under the GeoTLDGroup.

The event, which took place during the week of September 15, was organized by the .frl domain and included representatives from domains such as .gal, .bzh, .paris, .amsterdam, .eus, .wien, .hamburg, .berlin, and .alsace, among others. Registrars and experts in online security and fraud prevention also attended.

The meeting opened with remarks from Nacho Amadoz, president of the group and member of the corporate area of Fundació.cat. Over two days, participants shared experiences, ongoing projects, and joint initiatives to strengthen collaboration.

Representing PuntoGal, marketing director Luis Antelo presented an overview of the initiatives carried out throughout the year, some in cooperation with the peninsular domains .eus and .cat. Among the highlighted projects were cybersecurity campaigns and the dissemination of the European NIS2 directive, the celebration of the domain’s tenth anniversary, support for self-publishing projects in Galicia, and the promotion of the successes of the Galician Gaelic football teams.

Other domains also shared their perspectives on the year’s progress, upcoming legislative and regulatory changes expected in the coming months — both from ICANN and the European Union — and their communication strategies for 2026.
Finally, the meeting also served as preparation for the upcoming ICANN Meeting, to be held in October in Dublin, where more specific issues will be addressed in both bilateral and multilateral sessions.
